Everything about Australian Book Review totally explainedAustralian Book Review was founded in 1961 by Max Harris and Rosemary Wighton, and was published monthly in Adelaide from 1961. In 1971 it was published quarterly, and in 1974 it ceased publication - but was revived in 1978, and has been printed continuously since then. It is a monthly, magazine-style publication containing reviews of books, magazines, journals and exhibitions, diaries and travel writing, relating to Australia. It also publishes essays and new poetry. Peter Rose is the current editor of ABR, and the Chair of the magazine's board is Morag Fraser. Previous editors include John McLaren, Kerryn Goldsworthy, Louise Adler and Rosemary Sorensen; the previous Chair was Robert Manne.
